Before you know it, back-to-school time will be here and the days will be getting shorter, so make the most of the last full month of summer and have a picnic with your family or friends. A day at the beach, a hike in the mountains, or just a lazy afternoon at your neighborhood park — wherever you are, food just tastes better outdoors.
If grilling is on the menu, marinate meat in sealable plastic bags that you can pop in the cooler — makes clean up easier, too! Ponzu Glazed Chicken, made with Kikkoman Ponzu or Lime Ponzu Sauce and a burst of fresh lime juice, is quick and easy, and perfect for the grill!
Before you head out on your picnic, wrap sweet potatoes in foil so they’ll be all ready to pop on the grill once the coals are nice and hot. Pack a jar of glaze, made with Kikkoman Teriyaki Baste & Glaze, to brush on when they’re done.
If you’re not planning to grill, try Swirlwiches instead of plain old sandwiches. Assemble the ingredients in the kitchen and let the kids loose—if they get to prepare their own swirlwiches, they’re more likely to eat them! Watch our video!
And don’t forget, food safety is even more important when you’re eating in the hot summer sun. Keep hot food hot in insulated containers and cold food cold in ice pack-filled coolers. Don’t leave food out of the cooler or off the grill more than two hours, or one hour when the outside temperature is above 90°F.
