Crank up the Crunch Winners
To learn how our readers “crank up the crunch” with Panko Bread Crumbs, Kikkoman launched a nation-wide recipe contest to find the ultimate crunch masters. We asked you to share your recipes for crispy appetizers, crunchy sides and main dishes, and mouth-watering desserts, and you came through with so many delicious, creative and original recipes that we had a hard time picking the best!
We had a blast “cranking up the crunch” in the Kikkoman kitchen and finally picked four winners, who will each receive a $1,000 prize and have their winning recipes featured on the Kikkoman website, Facebook page and Twitter page. Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who entered!
- Our winner in the appetizer category, Danielle M., created Panko Sweet Potato Sticks. They’re oven baked and get their crunch from panko bread crumbs, not from deep frying, for a lighter, less greasy taste. Serve Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce on the side for dipping.
- Tresa H.'s Cheesy Rosemary Crunch Bread won the prize for side dish, and when you try it, you’ll see why! Not only is it delicious, but it’s easy too—just layer biscuits from your grocery’s refrigerator case with panko bread crumbs, fresh rosemary, asiago and mozzarella and bake, and you’ll have the perfect accompaniment to any meal.
- For the prize-winning main dish, Joyce J. created Mushroom Stuffed Panko Pork Chops. With a savory cream cheese, mushroom and bacon stuffing and crunchy panko bread crumb coating, these chops are perfect for entertaining as well as family meals.
- Kikkoman Krunchy “Fried” Ice Cream from Nancy P. topped the dessert category. Scoops of vanilla ice cream are rolled in panko bread crumbs, sugar and cinnamon to create a delicious contrast of crunchy and creamy.
