Taking Mom out for brunch is a popular way to celebrate her special day, but this year, try something a little different. How about surprising her with a tea party and inviting some of her best friends? Or if the weather is nice, get away from the brunch crowds and enjoy a picnic at a nearby park or a barbecue at the beach. Mom will welcome the change and you’ll get a chance to show off those cooking skills she taught you!
An afternoon tea will give Mom a chance to dress up (flowered hats required!) and spend a leisurely afternoon with good food and good company. Dress up the table with fresh flowers and the “Sunday best” china and silver. In addition to a selection of Mom’s favorite black, green and herbal teas, lay out a spread of dainty crustless sandwiches like cucumber and cream cheese or cheddar and Harvest Apple Chutney , a bowl of Spicy Party Nuts and a loaf of Lemon Poppyseed Quick Bread.
Pack up some California Chicken Salad, crusty bread, cheese and cold cuts, and a thermos of iced tea and take Mom out for a picnic! Or, if you prefer to barbecue in the park or at the beach, pop chicken or beef into a plastic bag to marinate with Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce for easy transportation and clean-up. And make sure you do all the planning and cooking so Mom can really relax!
If you’re a traditionalist and still get a kick out of bringing Mom her breakfast in bed, complete with a crisp, white napkin and a rose on the tray, change it up a little this year with Crispy Baked French Toast dipped in Japanese style Panko Bread Crumbs and baked until crunchy and golden. A bowl of fresh berries and freshly brewed coffee or a smoothie made with Kikkoman Pearl® Organic Soymilk will round out the meal and let Mom know she’s extra-special!
