Daniel Olivella is the executive chef-partner and wine buyer of B44 Catalan Bistro in San Francisco, and Barlata, a tapas bar in Oakland, CA. He is currently working in his second Barlata tapas bar this time in Austin, TX due to open this year.
He began working in restaurants at age 15 in his hometown near Barcelona, then for 10 years he worked in numerous restaurants in Chicago before moving to the Bay Area in 1989. He opened B44 in 1999 and was named a Rising Star Chef of the Year in 2001 by the San Francisco Chronicle. B44 has been featured in numerous magazines both in the U.S. and in Spain, and B44 dishes have twice been chosen as one of the 20 Best Dishes in America by USA Today. Chef Olivella opened Barlata in March 2009 in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland.
